THE CAPEMAN PROPHECIES
The Times (UK) ran a fine article on graphic novels in anticipation of "The Mousetm vs The Mouse," an "illustrated conversation" on comics hosted by the Institute of Contemporary Arts. Among the interviewed subjects is Dan Franklin of the Jonathan Cape publishing company, the UK home of Chris Ware, Dan Clowes and others. Franklin enthuses over a number of recent books including L'Association member Marjane Satrapi’s Persépolis: "If we can get them into the mainstream book trade, we’ll be achieving something." Egon is generally loath to speculate, but Franklin's status as a company man seems to allow the inference that an English language edition of Satrapi's book may be in the works.

THE HOUSE OF YES
An piece in Publishers Weekly reveals that volume three of Larry Gonick's Cartoon History of the Universe will be published by W. W. Norton in October. The new book "runs from rise of the great Arab civilizations to Columbus's arrival in North America in 1492." The remainder of the article concerns itself largely with Gonick's historical connection to Jackie Onassis.

ALAN MOORE HEARS VOICES
In addition to the previously announced completion and release of the long-lost "Lost Girls," Top Shelf Productions will republish Alan Moore's long out of print novel "Voice of the Fire," according to an article on Comicon.com's "Pulse" site. The novel concerns "the development of the English language through 5,000 years of history" and the psychogeography of Alan Moore's hometown of Northhampton. The Top Shelf edition will be hardcover and will include new illustrations and an introduction by Neil Gaiman. Top Shelf will also publish Moore's "Mirror of Love," also with new illustrations. "Mirror of Love" is an "epic prose-poem" originally published in AARGH (Artists Against Rampant Governmental Homophobia), a British one-shot anthology from the mid-80s released to protest anti-gay legislation. These books should be available in time for the San Diego Comic-Con 2003. Those who long for a taste of Moore's voice in the interval are exhorted to download interview excerpts currently available on the Comics Journal's website. In this excerpt from a much longer conversation with Gary Groth, Moore discusses, among other topics, the origin and themes of "From Hell."
