XERIC GRANTS ANNOUNCEDThe Xeric Foundation has announced its latest group of self-publishing grant recipients: Jef Czekaj, "Grampa and Julie: Shark Hunters" John Hankiewicz, "Tepid" Jai Nitz, "Paper Museum" Bishakh Som, "Angel" Elena Steier, "The Revenge of the Vampire Bed and Breakfast" Julie Yeh, "Poppie's Assignments: Serpents in Paradise" "A total of $25,452 was awarded to six comic book creators," according to the Foundation's press release. CHRIS WARE: BANGED UPThe second issue of Casterman's "Bang!" magazine cover-features Chris Ware, according to BDNews and Casterman's website. The magazine includes a new interview with Ware, cover art, a new strip, sketchbook pages and an excerpt from Acme Novelty Library #1. The 144-page issue also includes short manga by Suchiro Maruo and Kan Takahama. Feature articles cover the history of Tintin magazine and the relationship between comics and movies, including a new color strip by Moebius on the film adaptation of "Blueberry." CAROUSEL RETURNS IN MAYR. Sikoryak's "Carousel" program of cartoon slide shows returns to New York's Marquee theater on Monday May 5, including Kaz and Michael Kupperman among its performers. MAN FROM TUPELOSlave Labor Graphics announces the July publication of "Tupelo," a four-issue mini-series written by Matt DeGennaro and drawn by Phil Elliott.
