INDIAN CARTOONING IN DECLINEIndia's Tribune examines at length the apparent decline of Indian editorial cartooning. Indian cartooning took initial inspiration from British magazines like Punch and thrived under the pens of a generation of artists including R. K. Laxman. "Nowadays editors don't give much importance to cartoons," says Srinivas Prabhudesai, former president of the Cartoonist Combine association. "Except for Laxman, there is not one cartoonist who can survive on his craft. So they do other jobs like illustrations and working for animation films."
