An unsigned post to the Yahoo! "EC Comics" mailing list announces:"The first four pages from Krigstein's EC classic 'In The Bag', newly recolored by Marie Severin, have been posted on the ["Krigstein Archive"] website. It's a sneak preview of what's in store. The book ["B.Krigstein Comics," a forthcoming volume from Fantagraphics books] has been pushed back to Spring 2004 due to technical problems cleaning up some of the old art, but Marie Severin has almost finished the 14 stories she is coloring." The "In the Bag" preview is located on the portion of the website dedicated to the upcoming collected edition. The Krigstein Archives website "is dedicated to preserving the work of painter Bernard Krigstein (1919-1990), ultimately presenting his entire catalog on line."

COMICS, FILM, AND THE ACADEMY
Ian Gordon, Mark Jancovich, and Matthew P. McAllister solicit book chapters for "Film and Comic Books," an academic volume to be edited by the three professors, Gordon announced to the Comics Scholars' Discussion List. "We are looking for articles of between 6,000 and 8,000 words that address the changing and interrelated dynamics of film and comic book production and reception," writes Gordon. Chapter proposals will be accepted through March 15 and can be submitted to Gordon via e-mail: hisilg@nus.edu.sg. "Notification of acceptance of chapters will be made by May 1, 2004."

WOODRING WANTS THE AIRWAVES
Bill Frisell and Jim Woodring appeared on Seattle-based KUOW radio's "The Beat" program on February 4, discussing their multi-media performance piece "Mysterio Sympatico." The episode has been archived online as a streaming audio file. "Mysterio Sympatico" will be performed again Sunday, February 8 at the Seattle Art Museum.

HOTEL CALIFORNIA
The January 30 - February 5 dated issue of the L.A. Weekly features a full-color "Dark Hotel" strip by Bob Callahan and Spain. The one-page strip is the first episode of the continuing "A Grozny Lullaby." The strip is viewable online as an interactive "Flash" file.

QUÉBECOIS PHYLACTERIES
French-language newspaper Le Devoir reports on the 100th anniversary of phylacteries, or word balloons, in Québecois comics, dating to the January 30, 1904 episode of "Les Aventures de Timothée" by Albéric Bourgeois. The piece notes varying formal definitions of comics over the years, with critical emphasis shifting from incorporated text and image to sequential, pictorial narrative.

LE COLLECTIONNEUR DE BD #100
Actua BD reports on the hundredth issue of "Le Collectionneur de BD," a one-time fanzine turned magazine, now supported by the CNBDI. The anniversary issue cover-features rare material associated with "La Famille Fenouillard" by Christophe (real name: Georges Colomb). Christophe's strip "appeared in Le Petit Français Illustré from 1889 until 1893," according to Lambiek's Comiclopedia. "Le Collectionneur" also interviews Joann Sfar, who reveals that he will be writing stories of Edgar Jacobs' "Blake and Mortimer," to be illustrated by Émile Bravo.
